I had one of these and it lasted many years. I replaced it with the identical product. It is still the best. This is one sweet appliance! I have absolutely nothing bad to say about it. I waited several months before reviewing. It is substantially constructed. Breville did NOT make a cheap, flimsy product. It works perfectly. The appliance is very attractive and pleasing to look at. No problem at all with the control buttons. The temps and wording for types of tea are easy to read. The text is above and below each button instead of on the button so it won't wear off. The buttons are flush with the control panel making it nice and sleek. There are no extra pieces sticking out anywhere on this appliance thereby giving it it's sleek appearance. There is an auto-open (flush) button on the upper part of the handle that auto-opens the kettle lid. It is a soft open so the lid does not suddenly fly up. If you accidently miss this button a little so the lid does not completely open, just press button again. Note that this is not a malfunction of the design but a whoops of your finger. There is a stainless steel bottom inside the glass kettle portion. It is a breeze to clean. 1 cup of white vinegar, fill pot to max line, bring to boil. Once it cools a bit so steam is not too hot for you, use a long-handled, soft-bristled brush in the vinegar solution and brush the whole inside of the pot. It cleans right up with no hard scrubbing needed (you wouldn't want to scratch the glass if that's possible - I don't know). Dump out the vinegar water, rinse it, put in fresh water, bring to boil, dump that and you are done . The boiling of the pot does most of the cleaning. You won't need to clean it like this often - only once you see class getting cloudy. It will be sparkling clean again. There is an element on bottom of the pot and the base also. No submerging pot or base! If you get a little water on these places it's totally okay so long as you dry it up before turning kettle on. I have done this many times. Handle is easy to hold. There is a small strainer right behind the glass spout that is easy to remove and replace. Another great feature that Breville uses on all their appliances concerns the electric cord. There is a three-prong cord with a finger hole in the plug so you can easily pull it out of the wall. I thought this was ingenious and would like to thank the person at Breville that came up with it. The cord itself is heavy-duty, still flexible enough to coil up nicey, and just long enough for counter-top use. This is something that I do. I actually brew the tea in the pot but after the water comes to temp. Once the water is heated, I drop in the teabags or tea ball, set the timer for how long I want and then remove the bags/ball. I have a wooden cook spoon with a long handle that pulls the bags right up the side of the glass so I can grab them. Also, Amazon has a couple of tea balls with 7" chains that will hang on the side of the pot. This is quite convenient for me. You should know that Breville does not recommend brewing tea in their pot. However, I puzzled this out with logic and common sense considering that the kettle is stainless and glass - not materials that are bothered by tea. If you are going to do this, it's important to know the tea is put in once the kettle is off. I did spend hours on the Internet researching all the options for electric tea kettles/brewers and reading tons of reviews. I really did not want to pay the price for the Breville but in the end its features, construction and appearance sold me. I have had a lot to say about this product because I think it is as close to perfect as I have seen in my 69 years of purchasing. I hope you will enjoy it too.I've used many kettles over the years and this is the absolute best one I've ever owned. I've had it for two and a half years now. I and my husband use it daily. I boil water for instant ramen and various other foods that need hot water. I've used the different settings it has, to get the temperature perfect for various tea types and pour-over coffees. It's so simple. Just press the button for the right temperature and when it's done, it beeps to let me know it's ready. I've never had any issues with this Breville Kettle Pure. The water reaches peak temperatures quickly. In fact, it's faster to heat than most other kettles I've owned. It's easy to clean and it doesn't get overly hot to the touch so I've never burned myself as I have with other kettles.Features I love:- The lid soft opens with a button release, so there's no splashing of hot water when the lid lifts.- The handle fits all hand types. I have small hands. My husband has large hands. Neither of us has had a problem holding the kettle or pouring.- The base plugs into the wall and the pitcher is free, so I can carry it to the table after it's reached its temperature.- The Safty Auto Shut-Off and Boil Dry Protection features are awesome! After one minute, the base beeps and shuts off for protection.- I love the Keep Warm feature, which keeps the water at temp for one minute after boil. It gives me time to get to the kettle after it's completed.- The 7 cup pitcher is made of German Schott Glass. It's sturdy and strongly made. I've even dropped it once and never had it break.- There's a filter at the spout.- There are 5 temperature settings that allow me to adjust it from the lowest setting with a slight boil - best for green teas and such - all the way up to a nearly hard boil, for things like black teas. And then the hardest boil, which is great for foods and pour-over coffee.- The start/cancel button is convenient. AND... the best part, even after you hit the start button, you can still adjust the temp setting by just pressing a different button and it'll brew to the temp you set it for. I've often started the kettle and realized I needed a different setting, so instead of turning it off and back on like I do other kettles, I just hit the button for the new setting and the kettle adjusts accordingly. I LOVE that! This kettle is a must-have for anyone who wants a way to boil water quickly and safely. Like I said, I've had it for over two years and it still works perfectly. IF and/or when this one stops working, I want another one just like it.I love a cup of hot tea year round. This tea kettle is perfect because of the preset buttons for whatever tea you are making. It heats up quickly and is a great asset to my tea making experience. I love this so much that it goes on vacation with us!!!We upgraded from the Breville "Crystal Clear" (single temperature) kettle once that one stopped working after about 5 years of service. We thought the temperature settings would be great for Aeropress/pourover coffee as well as different kinds of tea, and we weren't disappointed. This works as advertised, and we love the clean look of the clear kettles.I was a bit worried that the base wouldn't look as sleek on the countertop as the single-temperature version, but it looks just fine. The "keep warm" feature is also very helpful. The kettle is definitely on the more expensive side, but we got it on a Boxing Day sale, and so I would have no complaints other than the fact that the lid got complete stuck after only two months of use, and so we needed to contact Breville for a warranty replacement. The lid release button clicked in as normal, but the lid was completely stuck. I even tried pushing and prying it, to no avail.I will say that Breville's warranty process was quite painless, and they shipped out a replacement in about a week's time.I splurged on this kettle about a week ago and I'm not sorry. I am a huge tea drinker and this kettle is a tea drinker's dream. I hadn't realized how badly my old, "regular" kettle was scorching everything. I actually boil water for my herbal tea on the green tea setting, because I don't like my tea so hot that it burns my tongue. The flavours are so much more robust when you boil the water at the various temperatures. So far I've used the green tea and the black tea setting and no joke, my tea tastes so much better, and I never realized how much flavour I was missing. The water boils quickly and quietly, and the "stay warm" function is a dream... most of the time I'm doing other things while water boils and with this function I don't feel like I need to sit and wait for it to finish... I can do whatever I'm doing and know the water will stay at the appropriate temperature. It's very easy to operate and I love how big the carafe is, I only need to fill it every two or three days. I haven't cleaned it yet, but based on the instructions it will be easy to do. It's a lot of money for a kettle, but it's very worth it. It's sturdy, well-made and I expect it to last a very long time. This is a replacement of our old Breville kettle BKE830XL. After a few years usage. the buttons do not work as expected any more on the old one. The old one's glass vessel has SCHOTT Duran Germany printed on two places. This new one has none. Even the company web site does not say it is SCHOTT glass. This site's introduction is misleading. After a water boil, the vessel inner wall above the water is full of steam and lasts for hrs. Even when the water surface is lowered, the newly exposed inner wall will be covered with steam as well. Our old one was never like this.So much disappeared. My friend's $40 Hamilton Beach glass vessel is better than this.Overall I liked this one but... since 2015 when I bought it:- Returned right from the beginning because the base was getting warm when in stand-by which made me concern about fire safety especially when leaving the house for few days. Ordered second time and the other was the same.- Lid was stucking when warm and would not open (no, that's not a safety feature). I had to trim some plastic around the lid and from third attempt I was able to fix this issue.- After 3-4 years, it started to fail to stop when water was boiling. I could take up to 5 min to stop, most of the cases I was just stopping it manually.- And finally, the base buttons are not waterproof and after an accidental water spill it stopped working. It was disassembled, all water removed and dried out but still didn't fix it - when plugged "Start" and "Keep warm" buttons are red and it's not beeping as before.I like the good looking appliances and this is not the only Breville I own. Quality is an issue. If you (Breville) want to restore your reputation as high quality, "worth the money" brand, you have a lot of room to improve things. The Kettle I received was obviously returned and/or refurbished before and there is still scratch on the glass. It arrived in an open bit up box. Very sloppy repackaging job. Sending it right back. Very disappointed.
