Who knew replacing my old kettle would be so difficult? Reading all the product descriptions and reviews left me with no really good choice (on paper at least). Ultimately, I settled for this one. Overall it's decent, but does have some subtle, but important design flaws. The good: Heats water quickly on standard gas burners. Retains heat well. The fair: Mouth big enough (barely, but better than my last one) to fill from tap without having to hold up. I don't like to hold the weight of kettle/water as it's filling from past issues with tennis elbow. So I like to set it on the divider between my double sinks to fill. But this often puts my hand and the handle in the way of trying to fill the top mouth. This one works okay... but gotta set the pot exactly to not have water hit hand or the side of pot. My time is valuable. I want to be able to set things down quickly... not take extra time to line up the faucetThe whistle can sound a bit shrill with my giant burner on high, but works well on the standard burners. The bad: I would have preferred the spout cover to be controlled from the grip position like my last one. Again, functionally, this is an extra (slower/unnecessary) step, AND it will spray/spatter hot droplets on your hand if flipping up while the water is boiling. One needs to turn OFF the burner FIRST and let the boiling subside. If I flip the top before shutting off burner, it spatters small droplets over my hand, BURNING it. Yes, it hurts, albeit briefly. Would not be good for child. And this issue would be avoidable altogether if cover lever control was run back to where handle grip is. If my hand is positioned back over the handle, it doesn't get sprayed (tested by using other hand to flip spout. The hand flipping the spout gets sprayed, but not the hand holding handle. So it works... but I needed to change the muscle memory of hearing the whistle, and promptly grabbing the kettle off the stove to pour into teapot/mug. Before I could just grab handle, lift, and squeeze finger control to spout cover, and pour, and then set back on stove, with cover dropping back over spout... all in one motion. Now, it's "turn BURNER OFF FIRST,, then reach to flip spout, then move hand back to grab handle to pick up and pour... then set back down.. and then reach back forward to flip cover back down. I'm 5'8"... and my fingers are not long enough to comfortably reach the spout cover. Yes you can reach it with the kettle empty of water, but once filled, the "balanced" grip of the water weight is further back on the handle... where my finger does not reach. So how about it Kitchen Aid... how about a design update. It might be perfect with a couple of design changes. I've had the kettle 2.5 months, and paid $36. For what it is, it seems a bit pricey. It's not large, but it's adequate for my use. With its current "simple" design, and size, it seems more like a $20 kettle. Even if the inside enamel holds up and doesn't rust over time, It's annoying enough, that I will look to find something better/more functional in the future. It’s a good kettle. It lasted 5 years. I’m a little disappointed it rusted so much that the handle came off. Also that the interior rusted. Kind of gross.Love the colorI would love this kettle except that it dribbles when you try to pour water out! I meant to exchange it, thinking that perhaps I just got one with a defect, but I kept putting it off, and then missed the window for returns. Perhaps this is just one that missed an inspection stage. Otherwise - solid kettle, great color, good whistle, easy to clean.I bought this teapot in Jan 2019 (two years ago) and I love it. It has been a wonderful teapot. I have not noticed any of the problems others have mentioned (melting spouts, rust, hot handle). In fact, I am buying another one today... only because by my own carelessness I knocked the partially full teapot off the back of my island cooktop and broke the handle. It landed handle down on the hard floor, which torqued the handle. I am ordering a new one straightaway. I had ordered others before this one, which were disappointing. I would buy the one with the full handle, but I like that I can leave the spout open on this one after I pour my tea to add a little humidity to the house (maybe that's why mine hasn't rusted--it is able to dry out). I have the cameo blue and will order the same again.I had Le Crueset tea kettle before this which we received as a wedding gift 2.5 years ago. We loved that tea pot in every aspect - from its color (white) to its thoughtful design to the whistling sound to how quickly it boiled water. In my opinion, it was perfect. Unfortunately I have hard water in our house so eventually the non-stick coating inside wore off and we tossed that trusty kettle after 2.5 years of near daily usage. Soon after tossing old kettle, I started looking into a replacement. I would have purchased the same brand and same color but wifey didn't want to spend $80. So I ended up purchasing this KitchenAid kettle here in bright yellow color for half the price.I have had this kettle for a little over a month now and I like it overall however it has several annoyances.- first and foremost, the spout cover is poorly designed. In open position, the back of the spout cover gets too close to the lid which is made from thin aluminum. Every time after pouring hot boiling water, I have to carefully close the spout cover so as not to touch the hot lid and burn my finger.- second point is about the lid itself. As I pointed out previously, the lid is made from thin aluminum. It's light and gets hot. The crevice under the grip on the lid itself is just enough to insert your fingers carefully. If not careful, the finger may touch the lid. Burn!- third is not that big of an issue but it's worth mentioning. Good tea kettles always make a loud sharp (but not annoying) whistling sound so you can hear it on the other end of your house. The whistling sound is more muted on this KitchenAid so it gets faint even in the next room; forget about hearing it in the basement or upstairs. With all that said, the yellow color adds a great 'pop' on the kitchen counter, it's weighty, and no noticeable rusting issues so far eve with the hard water. When it's time to replace this one, I am definitely going back to Le Creuset.Perfect stay cool handle, sturdy build and perfect colour! The handle is burning hot, you can't pick the kettle up without using a towel. Obviously the whistle part is also burning hot and you need to open it to pour water. It takes way longer than electronic kettle to boil the 2L of water (15 minutes). We're back to electronic kettle and use this only when we need extra water for various gathering. The kettle looks good though, but it does not justify the fact you can't properly use it as a kettle.I expected WAY more from KitchenAid. Very Lightweight Kettle. This kettle's handle was too hot to handle. The Whistle Spout Cap/Lever is also too hot to touch. The whistle comes on before water is boiled. Once rolling, the whistle sounds like a freight train. Sent backProduct arrived damaged from shipping so i am returning it. It is made of cheap materials and coating is as cheap a coating as I have seen.( hence how it was so easily damaged in shipping) It had chips out of the coating when I took it out of the very damaged box. WARNING!! IT DID NOT SHIP IN AN AMAZON SHIPPING BOX, it ships in its original KitchenAid branded cheap cardboard packaging. this is the second modern Chinese made KitchenAid kettle I have tried in the past 5 years. The materials and design just keep going downhill.
