I was hesitant to pay so much for something that is going to do one thing… boil water over a heat source. I was looking for a certain aesthetic to look at home with my gear and this delivered. It really is very well made. The price had me looking for alternatives, but I always went back to this one. Finally purchased one and when it arrived I felt the price was justified. There are several cheaper kettles on the market, but the simple thoughtful features engineered into this one is worth your consideration.Ok, they don't make things like this anymore. This really is a beautiful piece. The quality of the metal and workmanship is outstanding. From the design of the pouring spout lid, to the stops on the handle to prevent sway or the super clean welding, it really is amazing! I can honestly say that I haven't purchased anything in a long time that is as quality as this kettle, I was completely blown away. This thing is beautiful. A work of art sitting on my stove. Gonna be taking it on a road trip for a few months (that's what I bought it for). Time will tell if it is a $100 value, but I can't imagine this thing failing me anytime soon. It is SO well made.My favorite kettle. Design is flawless. Welds are impeccable. As others have said, this is a true work of art. It should last forever. Family heirloom quality lol. I will pass this down to my grandchildren. Not worth $$$. Takes a long time to boil, and is too hot to touch without oven mittens or towel.I tested it after a month so I can’t return it now.Perhaps a thicker clad bottom and heat resistant handles would help.Just Great!... stainless artwork designed with performance details to fit it's purpose expect next model in titaniumI don't know where to begin to explain how great I think this kettle is! There are so many little design details that make this the perfect campfire kettle. It is conceived, designed and made in Japan with Japanese stainless steel, and all these are definitely features in my book. All the joints are (spot) welded (or riveted) and even the spout has been welded on (as opposed to soldered-on; soldering is a vastly inferior attachment technique). The spout flap is a clever feature and it keeps ashes out. It also keeps dust and insects out e.g. if you leave the kettle standing outside overnight. However when you are ready to pour then the spout-flap clips onto the lid, which keeps the lid shut and the spout open: great! Note that gloves are recommended for this! Inside the body there is a baffle to make sure that water pours out of the spout and not the lid (have you ever been frustrated with e.g. a teapot when the water also pours out from the lid instead of just the spout? Well this potential problem has been eliminated with the baffle). Furthermore, there is a little hole in the lid which serves two purposes: it emits a nice visible jet of water vapour to signify boiling. Also during pouring the hole allows the influx of air which avoids the potential build-up of a vacuum inside (which could cause erratic pouring). Regarding the hanger loop: stops are in place to make sure that the loop doesn't fall forwards over the spout when pouring. Additionally, if suspended from the loop then the loop-stops also insure that the kettle can tip forwards to pour; but not backwards. The lid has a tab at the back allowing opening with a thumb-press (which means one handed opening for e.g. filling), and then the tab also limits the movement of the lid so that it stays open but can't land on top of your hand. Very simple but so very functional! The shape: a 'tall' kettle makes sense for campfire use i.e. if you are going to place a kettle into a fire (with its base flat on the ground) then the majority of heat will not be coming in through the bottom-surface: instead the most heat will be coming in through the side-surfaces. In this sense the shape is perfect for using the kettle in a fire (as opposed to using it over a fire). Obviously you can still use it 'over' a heat source; however then perhaps a flat and broad bodied kettle would be slightly more efficient. Anyway, if you like kettles and campfires then I can't recommend this kettle enough. Final thought: the specified capacity of 1.8 litres is not a useable volume (1.8 fills the kettle to the brim of the spout). I find that 1.6 is a more practical working capacity.
